LOLER INSPECTIONS.

Under the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (known as LOLER) passenger, goods and home lifts are required to have a regular examination. A list of lift plant requiring inspection is shown below.

- Passenger Lifts, Goods Lifts,
- Service Lifts,
- Platform Lifts,
- Stair Lifts,
- Home Lifts,
- Scissor Lift (Goods & Persons)

We recognise that whilst this is a legal requirement, you would prefer these essential examinations to be carried out in a pain free manner, with the least possible disruption. We are happy to work with you to keep interruptions to a minimum, whilst ensuring the examination is thorough and effective.

Compliance to LOLER is through examinations which are in addition to regular servicing, think of it as similar to an M.O.T. for lifts.

How often should a Tests be carried out?
Every six months for lifting equipment used for lifting/lowering persons. E.g. passenger lifts, access platforms and home lifts.

RESONSIBILITIES OF THE LIFT OWNER OR DUTY HOLDER.
As the lift owner or dutyholder you are legally responsible for ensuring that the lift is safe to use and that it is thoroughly examined. These responsibilities include:

- Maintaining the lift so that it is safe to use;
- Selecting and instructing the competent person;
- Ensuring that the lift is examined at statutory intervals (every 6 or 12 months) or
in accordance with an examination scheme drawn up by a competent person;
- Keeping the competent person informed of any changes in the lift operating
conditions which may affect the risk assessment;
- Making relevant documentation available to the competent person, eg
manufacturer’s instructions and maintenance records;
- Acting promptly to remedy any defects;
- Ensuring that all documentation complies with the Regulations; and
Record keeping.
